Fanny Howe won the 2009 Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize. Established in 1986 by The Poetry Foundation, publisher of Poetry magazine, the prize awards $100,000. Ange Mlinko won the Randall Jarrell Award in Poetry Criticism, which awards $10,000.
Howe, 68, has written Gone (California, 2003), Selected Poems (California, 2000), On the Ground (Graywolf, 2004), The Lyrics (Graywolf, 2007) and many other books of poetry. Mlinko, 39, is the author of two books: Matinees (Zoland, 1999) and Starred Wire (Coffee House, 2005).
