Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clezio Wins Noble Prize in Literature

Le Clezio, 48, received much attention for his first novel, The Interrogation (1963) and made a breakthrough with readers in 1980 with Desert. The Swedish Academy cited Le Clezio as an “author of new departures, poetic adventure and sensual ecstasy, explorer of a humanity beyond and below the reigning civilization.” So there! He won.
