Paul Mariani�s The Great Wheel (Norton, 1996) is his fifth book of poetry. He has also published numerous books of prose and four biographies, including The Broken Tower: A Life of Hart Crane (Norton, 1999) and William Carlos Williams: A New World Naked (Norton, 1981), winner of the New Jersey Writers Award, finalist for an American Book Award, and a New York Times Notable Book of the year. He is Distinguished University Professor at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. (2001)
