Richard Chess is the author of three books of poetry: Tekiah (1994), Chair in the Desert (2000) and Third Temple (2007), all published by the University of Tampa Press. His poems are included in Bearing the Mystery: Twenty Years of Image (Eerdmans, 2009), Best American Spiritual Writing 2005 (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, 2005) and Telling and
Remembering: A Century of American Jewish Poems (Beacon, 1997). He directs the Center for Jewish Studies at the University of North Carolina at Asheville, where he is also a professor of literature. [bio updated 2011]
