Robert Burns, a.k.a. the Bard of Ayrshire, The Bard, Rabbie Burns, Ploughman Poet & Scotland’s Favourite Son, was born 250 years ago today in Alloway, South Ayrshire, Scotland. The Scottish Daily Record reports that the event is “marked with whisky and haggis at more than 3000 official events in dozens of countries.” Celebrations in Scotland were led by First Minister Alex Salmond.
