A.L. Nielsen is the Kelly Professor of American Literature at Pennsylvania State University. He is the author of five collections of poetry including Stepping Razor (Edge, 1996), Vext (Sink, 1998) and Mixage (Zasterle, 2005). His poetry has won the Larry Neal Award and two Gertrude Stein Awards. He has written five books of criticism which have garnered the SAMLA Studies Prize, the Kayden Award and the Josephine Miles Award. His poetry appears in Smartish Pace, Issue 16 (2009).
