Kari Hawkey is a poet from Orange County, California. Her work appears online and in print, in such publications as Only Light Can Do That: 100 Post-Election Poems, Stories, & Essays (PEN Center USA), Watershed Review, Oklahoma Review, Squaw Valley Review, Tin Cannon, and more. Kari holds an MFA in Creative Writing and Writing for the Performing Arts from the University of California Riverside Palm Desert, and is currently enrolled in a doctoral program. She was awarded the Lucille Clifton Scholarship for the Poetry Program at the Squaw Valley Community of Writers and was a finalist for the Pocataligo Poetry Prize. During the summer, she attends the Idyllwild Arts Academy for poetry workshops. Previously, Kari served as the head poetry editor for The Coachella Review. You will often find her at a local theatre, art exhibit, or just reading a book at the pub down the street. She has been a member of Smartish Pace since 2013.
