Poet Joy Harjo of Muskogee Creek heritage has won Wallace Stevens award from the Academy of American Poets, found in 1934. Her works include How We Became Human and The Woman Who Fell from the Sky.
The Academy has also awarded Kevin Young’s Book of Hours Lenore Marshall poetry prize and a felloship to poet Marie Howe.
