Stanley Plumly was appointed Poet Laureate of Maryland in a presentation by Governor Martin O’Malley and Alice McDermott at The State House in Annapolis, Maryland. Plumly becomes the 9th Poet Laureate of Maryland, following Michael Glaser (2004-2008), Michael Collier (2001-2004), Roland Flint (1995-2000), Linda Pastan (1991-1995), Reed Whittemore (1985-1988), Lucille Clifton (1979-1985), Vincent Godfrey Burns (1962-1979) and Maria Briscoe Coker (1959-1962).
