Heather McHugh, Milliman distinguished writer in residence at the University of Washington, won the prestigious MacArthur Fellowship (more subtly called the “Genius Award”) today. The fellowship comes with a $500,000 prize and the company of fellow poets Derek Walcott, Robert Penn Warren, A.R. Ammons, Joseph Brodsky, Brad Leithauser, Robert Hass, Charles Simic, and others.
