Harold Norse, a San Francisco poet often associated with the Beats, has died at age 92. He was born July 6, 1916 in New York City and lived in SF since the early 1970s. He was a mentor and peer to the likes of Tennessee Williams, James Baldwin, Allen Ginsberg and Charles Bukowski. William Carlos Williams called him “the best poet of your generation.” He published a dozen books, most recently In the Hub of the Fiery Force (poems, Thunder’s Mouth, 2003).
