British Women go 2 for 2?

March 8th, 2009

The two most important positions in the British poetry establishment will be filled in the next few weeks and it looks like, for the first time, both incumbants will be women. Carol Ann Duffy is the odds-on-favorite to replace Andrew Motion as Poet Laureate, and Ruth Padel is a frontrunner to replace Christopher Ricks as the Oxford professor of poetry, a position held by Matthew Arnold, W.H. Auden and Seamus Heaney. Good luck to Carol and Ruth, we’re rooting for you!
