The largest North American poetry festival will indefinitely cease. The Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation states that they cannot afford to fund the biennial Dodge Poetry Festival (Waterloo Village, NJ) planned for 2010.
“Basically we’re not in a sustainable investing position,” said David Grant, president and CEO of the Dodge Foundation. The foundation has a $205 million endowment, down from $300 million one year earlier. Last September’s festival brought 19,000 people to the four-day event.
In (un)related news, the Smartish Pace parties & readings planned for The Walters Art Museum, Chicago Travelodge, The Whole Gallery, KGB Bar, basements and backrooms in 2009 and beyond are financially fireproof and will occurred as planned.
