Poet Adrian Mitchell (sometimes playwright, novelist, and children’s writer) died on Saturday morning of pneumonia. A writer interested in the poetics of nuclear war, racism, and Vietnam, his poem, “Human Beings,” was the work most Poetry Society voters wanted launched into space. Mitchell was a Fellow at both Cambridge and Weslayan and taught in the Iowa Writers’ Workshop in the 1960s.
