Kay Ryan Next U.S. Poet Laureate

Kay Ryan will begin her term as U.S. Poet Laureate on October 16, 2008. She will replace Charles Simic and receive a salary of $35,000. Ryan is the author of six poetry collections, most recently “The Niagara River” which was published by Grove Press in 2005. Ryan was born in San Jose, CA in 1945, and has lived in Marin County, CA since 1971.
